Chemical Engineering Caritas University

PHILOSOPHY AND OBJECTIVE
The Chemical Engineering programme is designed to give each student a thorough grounding in his specific professional area while giving him flexibility of choice in tailoring his individual programme to fit his personal career plans for immediate employment in industry, self-employment or for post graduate studies and research.

VISION
The principle objectives of the Chemical Engineering Programme include the following:
The training of Engineers who are capable of meeting the challenges not only of Nigeria Chemical and Petroleum industries but also those of the general Nigeria socio economic sector.
The inculcation of the basic principles and skills underlying the planning, designing, operating, managing or infact maintaining the respective industrial plants.
Impacting the necessary knowledge for setting up, operating and managing of small-scale units and cottage industries of predominantly personal or private nature.
The simulation and motivation of every student in the pursuit of higher standard and achievement in the technological field either through experimental/industrial research or through the pursuit of higher educational qualifications and professional excellence.

PROGRAMME STRUCTURE
The students are expected to spend a total of five years to obtain the B.Eng (Chemical Engineering) Degree. The programme structure is as follows:
FIRST YEAR: Common University courses which include the basic sciences of mathematics, physics and chemistry, introduction to computer, and the general studies courses of use of English, social science and humanities. These are accomplished through the formal University lectures, practical, assignments and examinations.
SECOND YEAR: Common faculty of Engineering courses which include fluid mechanics, engineering drawing, Applied mechanics, material science, workshop processes and practice, strength of material, thermodynamics, engineering mathematics etc. These courses are accomplished through the formal University lecturers, practical, tutorials, assignment and examinations.
THIRD YEAR: Third year common engineering course and 300 level chemical engineering core courses. These are accomplished through formal University lectures, tutorials, practical, assignments and examinations.
FOURTH YEAR: 400 level chemical engineering courses are studied through the formal University lecturers, tutorial, practical, assignments and examinations during the first semester and a six month industrial attachment (SIWES 400) period in the second semester.
FIFTH YEAR: 500 Level core chemical engineering courses which come in the form of specialization courses, experimental and design projects, include electives which tend to broaden the technological base of the programme. These are also accomplished through the formal University lecturers, tutorials, practical, assignment and examinations. A final year B.Eng. Thesis submitted and defended by each graduating student.
